As one of the valley’s only independent guides, I enjoy fishing my guests on a variety of waters around here in Wyoming. From river float trips to overnight fly fishing adventures and memorable days on fabled Yellowstone National Park waters, I have just the trip for you! All my trips include the following:
- Transportation to and from your lodging in Jackson in my clean, nonsmoking vehicle*
- All fishing gear and terminal tackle (Winston rods, Orvis reels, leaders, flies, waders, etc.)
- Full day trips include a hearty streamside lunch, while half- day trips include drinks and snacks
* A Wyoming fishing license is not included
*if staying in Wilson, Teton Village or up north, you can meet me at the public parking lot in downtown Jackson
Snake River Float Trips
A Snake River fly fishing float trip is “a can’t miss” if you’re visiting Jackson Hole! I love floating guests down this maze of currents, pointing out where eager fish hide. The Snake in Jackson Hole is home to Snake River Cutthroat trout, a native strain of fish that aggressively take big dry flies from the surface. Cutthroat average in size from 6 to 14 inches, with some growing in excess of 20 inches. The Snake river fishes best after the spring snow melt subsides, typically July through October. My guided float trips on the Snake River offer miles of world-class fly fishing, allowing anglers to fish cut banks, long riffles, pools and many braided side channels. I use an Adipose drift boat, one of the most comfortable and stable boats for fly fishing, to guide my guests out of. Dry fly fishing is the name of the here!

Green or Salt River Float Trip
The upper Green River is a favorite of mine. It originates in the Wind River Mountains outside of Pinedale, Wyoming, about an hour south east of Jackson. Flowing through high-mountain ranch land, the Green has abundant hatches of stoneflies, grey drakes, yellow sallies, PMDs and caddis, while nymphs and streamers often fool lunkers subsurface. It can be demanding and a bit more “moody” than the Snake, but is well worth the effort! The Green fishes best mid June-October.
The Salt River is another great fishery that meanders slowly north through Star Valley and offers good fishing for Cutthroat with the occasional Brown trout mixed in. Resembling a large spring creek, the slow speed of its currents offer a nice change of pace from the Snake and Green rivers. During the summer it’s fun to match the hatch and fish to rising trout along the cut banks. Flowing primarily through pasture, the hopper fishing can be quite fun too. It’s about an hour drive to fish the Salt River and it fishes best July-October.

Overnight Fly Fishing Trip
For those looking for a real Wyoming fly fishing adventure, this is a favorite. Get out of town and spend two days fly fishing waters around nearby Dubois, Wyoming. While there, we’ll target Brown, Rainbow, Cutthroat, Brook trout and Whitefish with dry flies, nymphs and streamers in the Wind River and its tributaries. In the evening we’ll retire to my A-frame cabin and enjoy a steak dinner. See why this is a guest favorite!

Yellowstone National Park
Fly fishing in Yellowstone National Park is a special and unforgettable experience. From steaming geyers along the Firehole River to smaller, lesser-known but equally exciting waters, Yellowstone’s got some of the coolest fly fishing in the lower 48. I am permitted to guide in the Park and would be happy to put you on some great trout water! Yellowstone’s fishing season begins Memorial Day weekend and continues through October until the Parks’ closing. Wade fishing the Firehole river in Yellowstone Park is a great early season option (late May-June) when other area waters are high with snow melt. Several other great waters in the park are great for summer and fall fishing. Fishing in the park involves a beautiful 1-2 hours drive up through Grand Teton and Yellowstone Park.

Lake Fly Fishing Trips
While lake fly fishing is not as popular around here as the river fishing, it makes for a great fly fishing experience! Lakes are a great option to fish in May and June when area waters are high with runoff. They also make for a fun change of pace when fishing multiple days out here. Choose from spending a day floating in my drift boat while casting to cruising rainbow trout, brown and brook trout, or hike into a small backcountry lake in search of beautiful Yellowstone Cutthroat trout. Expect a scenic drive when fishing these.

Walk-in Trips
Whether you like the slow pace of fishing a small, intimate spring creek or are looking for remote tributaries, boulder- strewn pocket water or alpine lakes full of wild trout, I have many fishing options for you. If you’re more experienced, let me take you to Flat Creek on the National Elk Refuge. This famous water offers the chance at catching a 20+ inch trophy cutthroat trout. Stealth and hatch matching are the name of the game here, where quality takes priority over quantity! Want to fish nymphs and hopper-droppers to big Brown and Rainbows, the Wind River outside of Dubois might be just what you’re looking for!

Winter Fly Fishing Trip
Half day wade fishing trips on the Snake River are the perfect compliment to your ski vacation! Spend the warmest part of our winter days casting flies to native cutthroat trout and mountain whitefish.
